FAQ

FAQ

As virtual dog training becomes more prevalent, pet owners often have questions about the process and how it compares to traditional in-person training. Here are some frequently asked questions about virtual dog training:

01

How does virtual dog training work?

Virtual dog training typically takes place through video conferencing platforms. Trainers guide pet owners through various training exercises, using a resident dog to show demonstrations, observe and provide feedback in real-time.

02

What equipment do I need for virtual dog training?

the-homeschooled-pup-faq-2.jpeg

Generally, a device with a camera and microphone (such as a computer, tablet, or smartphone) and a stable internet connection are necessary for virtual dog training.

03

Is virtual dog training as effective as in-person training?

Virtual training is highly effective, especially for certain behaviors. As in person group classes are often loud they present challenges for dogs to focus as well as for owners to hear and take in all of the instruction.

When you train virtually you are in your home with no other dogs around so it is much easier to focus for your dog as well as hear and take notes as you watch. Virtual classes also eliminate potential exposure to illnesses for your dog and you. There is no need to worry about travel/traffic/weather/parking that can be a challenge for in person classes.

04

Can virtual training address specific behavior issues?

Yes, virtual training can address a wide range of behavior issues, including basic obedience, leash reactivity, fear, and aggression. However, severe aggression or complex issues may require in-person evaluation.

05

How do trainers observe my dog's behavior through a screen?

Trainers rely on the video feed to observe the dog's body language, responses to commands, and overall behavior. Clear camera angles and good lighting can enhance the trainer's ability to assess the dog.

06

Can virtual training work for puppies?

07

How long are virtual training sessions?

08

Yes, virtual training encourages interaction. Owners can ask questions, seek clarification, and receive feedback on their techniques in real-time.

Should technical issues arise and you are not able to regain connection, there are opportunities in place to ensure that you get the missed information.

10

Do I need special props or equipment for virtual dog training?

Once you have your equipment for viewing the class (a device with a camera and microphone (such as a computer, tablet, or smartphone) and a stable internet connection) there are a few other things you will need. They are:

  • Clicker

  • Training treats

  • Training treat pouch (can even be a fanny pack or something similar)

  • Engagement items like peanut butter filled Kong or bully stick

11

What is the cancellation/refund policy?
